I recently undertook the not-trivial task of alphabetizing my LP collection, which was definately worth it. I've been finding that having a neatly organized collection has been great motivation and listen to some records that I haven;t heard in a while.
I noticed that a lot of the records that I purchased used have marks on the jackets from previous owners, and I kind of love that. Me and a stranger sharing thoughts about music through decades. In that spirit I have started writing little reviews about records while I'm listening to them, and sliding them into the dust jacket for whoever comes to own them in the future. I think I will share these reviews on the internet as well! You can't stop me!
The mark on this album was just the track "Time in a Bottle" being circled on the back, and I wonder what they were thinking about when they did that. It is an incredibly beautiful song. Maybe they felt that the song could say something to someone better than they could. I think there's a Jim Croce song about that feeling... 😉
If I could save time in a bottle... I'd spend it with my cat.
Overall, good album with some of my favorite Croce songs but not a no-skip masterpiece.
This used to be my favorite record from Kiwanuka but lately I have been gavitating more towards Kiwanuka. Like everything he does this is obviously fantastic. I love the chior arrangements. This is a rare album that I think is a better experience in digital mediums. Lots of songs have really long, meandering intros that add so much tension and vibeyness to the album, but as a consequence this is a realtively short album that is spread over two discs. That means you will be flipping it frequently. I think this is meant to be consumed with your butt continuously in a seat in one big session.
If I had never moved to Minneapolis, I don't know that I would have discovered the Replacements, so there's another thing to be grateful to this wonderful city for. This album is just so good... come on, man. "If being afraid is a crime, we hang side by side" is an all time favorite line in any song. Album flows really well from from start to finish. I really appreciate how the Replacements/Westerberg wrote such vulnerable lyrics while clearly not taking themselves too seriously.
Tim songs I have seen artists cover during their tour stops in Mpls: Here Comes a Regular (Phoebe Bridgers, Surly Field, transcedent), Waitress in the Sky (Geese, opening for King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, pretty good.)
